Description: Costume including a cotton shirt, a black wool tuxedo jacket with tails and a pair of wool, twill weave trousers with white stretch suspenders. Worn by Michael Jackson for the single cover shooting for the single "Smile", as an homage to Charlie Chaplin. All pieces are intentionally oversized and distressed to help create the homage to Charlie Chaplin's most famous character, the tramp. Michael wanted photographer Steve Whitsitt to portray him as Charlie Chaplin from the movie The Kid. Michael Bush recalls that Michael handed an image of Charlie Chaplin from the film to him and the photographer and told them he wanted to create that same image. Sold by Julien's Auctions (Lot #924) together with a group of costume items worn by "the kid" for $17,920 at their 2012 "The Collection of Tompkins and Bush: Michael Jackson" auction. All pictures and screen captures are the property of their respective owners. |
